Surge in COVID-19 cases in Ukraine: nearly 12,000 recorded in July
Currently, a significant increase in the COVID-19 infection rate is being recorded in Ukraine and the whole world with almost 12,000 cases registered in Ukraine last month.
Ihor Kuzin, Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“Indeed, now we see that the incidence of COVID is on a significant rise in the territory of the European Union and in the United States. And many countries have begun to report that the numbers are rather significant. The same situation is being observed in Ukraine. If, by rough estimate, we observed 2,000 in June, then in July we can see a significant increase with almost 12,000 cases. That is, there is a considerable increase in the infection rate,” he said.
According to Ihor Kuzin, despite the increase of the disease infection rate, the pressure on the health care system in terms of hospitalization is not too high. According to him, just over 2,500 citizens infected with COVID are admitted to hospital for treatment.
Ihor Kuzin also noted that the high rates of COVID incidence currently observed in Ukraine do not yet indicate the beginning of the epidemic season and the need to introduce restrictive measures.
“Such indicators that we are currently observing in Ukraine do not yet indicate that the epidemic season has begun or that it is necessary to introduce some specific restrictive measures in some specific facilities or in some specific territories. However, the rate is indeed quite high and uncharacteristic given the fact that first signs of increase usually start manifesting in September. This time it’s a little earlier. That is, one month earlier, we already see such an increase,” he added.
