State budget 2025: Defense spending to exceed 26% of GDP

Ukraine’s defense budget will see an increase of more than UAH 500 billion next year, according to Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko. 

Speaking at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine, Marchenko highlighted the government’s priority on military and security spending in light of ongoing national challenges.

“Our approach to planning is well-defined. First and foremost, we must secure the protection and defense of our country. That’s why defense and security expenditures are paramount. We are planning a defense budget that we believe is adequate to meet Ukraine’s needs, totaling UAH 2.23 trillion, or over 26% of GDP. This represents an increase of UAH 530 billion compared to this year,” Marchenko stated
