State Border Guard Service explains the new EU border crossing system
The implementation of the new entry/exit system by European countries does not constitute a new border crossing procedure. Rather, it is the collection of biometric data to update a database.
Andrii Demchenko, spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, explained the new procedure at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Implementing the new rules at each checkpoint does not mean there will be delays in processing citizens. The EU has determined that this database can be populated over a period of six months. The connection of all checkpoints on the border with Ukraine will happen gradually, as will the collection of data from people crossing the border,” Demchenko explained.
The new system is currently operational at select checkpoints with Romania, Poland, and Hungary.
