Spring sowing season kicks off in Ukraine: Over 470 thousand hectares planted
As of today, Ukraine has already sown more than 470 thousand hectares as part of its spring planting, with crops like wheat, barley, oats, and peas taking root.
Dmytro Solomchuk, a member of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada’s Agrarian and Land Policy Committee, provided updates during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“The spring sowing campaign is underway, with over 470 thousand hectares already sown, mainly with wheat, barley, peas, and oats. The momentum continues, with weather conditions playing a crucial role,” Solomchuk stated.
He noted that much of the sowing activity has been concentrated in the Odesa region while highlighting increased sowing efforts in regions previously impacted by conflict.
“Compared to last spring, there’s a significant expansion in sowing activities in regions like Kherson, where farmers have reclaimed substantial land. Similarly, in Kharkiv, land clearance efforts have paved the way for expanded sowing areas,” Solomchuk added.
