Slovak protesters unblock border checkpoint, but will continue to try to block traffic

Despite the fact that the truck traffic though the Vyšné Nemecké – Uzhhorod checkpoint on the Slovak border has already been unblocked, the attempts to block traffic will be repeated again.

Volodymyr Balin, Vice President of the Association of International Road Carriers of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“I think that the Slovaks will try to block the road in the future. But the issue is that the situation is the same both in Poland and Slovakia – what they are doing is violating the European Union treaty on the impossibility of blocking the checkpoints. Therefore, I really hope that the Slovak leadership – in particular the police, the authorities – realizes this. Although the new government formed there is clearly not pro-Ukrainian, the fact remains – there is domestic legislation and the legislation of the European Union, and it must be followed,” he noted.

As reported, yesterday at around 1:00 PM the entrance to the Vyšné Nemecké – Uzhhorod checkpoint was blocked. As of 12:00 PM, the road is unblocked.
