Since the beginning of the year, firefighters have recorded over 1,200 fires caused by faulty electrical appliances
There have been over 1,200 fires resulting from faulty electrical networks or appliances since the beginning of the year. Vladyslav Bahniuk, a representative of the Department of Civil Protection and Prevention of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, stated this during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Uncertified homemade electrical appliances, and damaged insulation are causes of fires. Using such appliances is strictly prohibited. DIY repairs or the use of damaged appliances can also lead to a fire,” Bahniuk emphasized.
The State Emergency Service warns:
– Do not use multiple appliances or overload power strips.
– Do not use swollen power banks or batteries, as they may explode.
– Gas burners should only be used to heat food in well-ventilated areas.
– Generators must be installed at least 6 meters away.
Vladyslav Bahniuk outlined the procedure to follow in case of a fire:
– Call 101.
– If there is no heavy smoke, use firefighting equipment, such as water or a fire extinguisher.
If the fire department is called to a closed courtyard, make sure that the rescuers can reach the fire without any obstacles.
