Since 2014, russia has detained over 100 journalists from Ukrainian and foreign media, some still held as hostages
Starting in 2014, russia has captured at least 112 journalists from both Ukrainian and international media, with some still held as hostages, according to the Institute of Mass Information (IMI).
Kateryna Diachuk, Head of the Freedom of Speech Monitoring Department at IMI, shared these findings at a Media Center Ukraine briefing.
“Some of our colleagues remain in captivity. IMI reviewed its records from 2014 onward to track the number of journalists who have been held. Some on this list were detained temporarily, while others have been held for extended periods. Today, at least 112 journalists from both Ukrainian and foreign media have faced captivity in russia and become hostages,” Diachuk stated.
