SES urges adherence to safety protocols during extended power outages

In the face of prolonged power cuts, the State Emergency Service is urging citizens to strictly comply with safety guidelines to prevent fire hazards.

Oleksandr Khorunzhiy, Press Officer of the State Emergency Service, underscored the importance of these measures during a recent briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

Here are some key recommendations:

Candles

Ensure that candles are placed at least one meter away from any flammable materials. They should be positioned on a stable surface to prevent them from tipping over. Never leave candles burning unattended.

Generators

It is crucial that generators are never operated in basements or living spaces. To ensure safety, they should be positioned at least six meters away from any open doors or windows. Generators must be certified, properly installed, and fueled in compliance with safety standards. Fuel should be stored separately in designated areas.

Gas and Camping Burners

The SES advises against using gas and camping burners indoors. However, if their use is unavoidable, only certified products should be employed. Any room where these burners are in operation must be well-ventilated. Additionally, burners should not be placed on electric stoves. To minimize risk, keep the gas cylinder as far away as possible from the cookware being heated to prevent heat transfer to the cylinder.

By following these measures, citizens can significantly reduce the risk of fire during long-term power blackouts.
