SES specialist killed in Kharkiv region during demining operation, two others hospitalized

A bomb disposal technician with Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) was killed during a demining mission in the Kharkiv region. Two other members sustained injuries, one remains in critical condition, while the other is in moderate condition.

The incident was confirmed by Nataliia Yashan, head of the Medical Support Department at the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.

“Yesterday, we suffered another loss in the SES family,” Yashan said. “It happened in the Kharkiv sector, where our demining experts were carrying out a planned operation. While they were clearing the area of mines, a drone appeared, and we lost one of our specialists. The injuries he sustained were incompatible with life.”

According to Yashan, medical teams are now doing everything possible to save the lives of the two wounded responders.

“Initial stabilization was provided on-site yesterday, after which both were transported to a medical facility in Kharkiv, where they received comprehensive care. One of them underwent surgery that lasted nearly through the night in an effort to stabilize his condition and save his life. As of today, he is in extremely serious but stable condition. The second will undergo another surgery today; his condition is moderate,” she added.
