SES: 156 thousand square kilometers of Ukraine’s territory are currently deemed potentially hazardous and in need of survey and demining efforts.
Last year witnessed a reduction in the area of land potentially contaminated by landmines and explosive remnants of war, decreasing from 174 thousand square kilometers to 156 thousand square kilometers.
Serhii Reva, Head of the Department for Organizational Work on Humanitarian Demining at Ukraine’s State Emergency Service made this statement at a briefing held at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
He attributed this notable surge to the collaborative efforts of the Defense Forces and mine action operators, as reported by the National Mine Action Authority. Reva emphasized, “Thanks to joint efforts, we successfully reduced the area considered potentially dangerous and requiring survey and demining from 174 thousand square kilometers to 156 thousand square kilometers.”
