Second-level protection for energy facilities is 99% effective – Study by Ukrainian Parliamentary Commission

The Verkhovna Rada’s Temporary Investigative Commission on energy issues published statistics showing that 74 high-voltage substation facilities are now protected, with another 45 in the final stages of completing their protection systems.

Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Industry Research Center, announced this information at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Among the 74 facilities equipped with this second line of defense, the Commission recorded only one instance of a heavy missile hitting a transformer. That’s a 1% result. Some substations have withstood 13-15 direct hits and continue to operate. The conclusion is simple: the second-level protection works. My main question is why large stations are not protected,” he said.
