Safety during memorial days: State Emergency Service urges citizens to clarify demining status of cemeteries
Before visiting cemeteries during memorial days, the State Emergency Service urges citizens to check with local authorities to ensure that these places have been inspected for explosive objects.
Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, Press Officer of the State Emergency Service, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“Before going to the cemetery, citizens need to find out from local authorities whether the cemetery has been inspected for explosive objects. That is, citizens should make sure that there are no explosive objects,” he emphasized.
Oleksandr Khorunzhyi explained that not only the State Emergency Service, but also the National Police bomb squads, the National Guard EOD units, and other mine countermeasures operators conduct inspections for explosives and report on their findings to local authorities.
“They (local authorities – Ed.) have this information and, accordingly, know which cemeteries are safe to visit,” added the Press Officer of the State Emergency Service.
