Saboteurs and incendiary mixture from russia: Ukraine’s forestry service highlights causes of forest fires
The State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” has identified several factors contributing to recent forest fires, including deliberate arson by saboteurs and the aggressive use of incendiary mixtures by russia, particularly in border regions.
Kseniia Hryhorieva, the spokesperson for the agency, made these remarks during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Aside from the human factor, [which accounts for half of the forest fires -Ed.], many are triggered by explosions and the clearing of forests. We have also apprehended several saboteurs over the weekend, particularly in the Sumy border region, where they were found with matches used to ignite flammable mixtures,” Hryhorieva stated. “We are collaborating with law enforcement on these cases. Furthermore, the aggressor country is dumping incendiary substances in border areas, which are igniting the forests. Our teams are working tirelessly to extinguish these fires.”
