russia’s defense would crumble after Crimea’s liberation, Expert Network says

The security of the Black Sea region and, by extension, global security, is inseparable from the security of Ukraine and Crimea, an expert said at Media Center Ukraine.

Stepan Yakimiak, captain 1st rank (ret.) and an expert at the Center for Defense Strategies, member of the Crimea Platform Expert Network Security Track voiced the assessment.

“The Ukrainian defense forces have driven the enemy back [from the Black Sea region] and pushed them into caves near Novorossiysk. They are continuously striking military targets in Crimea, and we are seeing real progress on the military front. For that reason, we maintain that once Crimea is liberated, russia’s entire defensive architecture and the system of borders it has constructed will collapse. Crimea is therefore a critical center of gravity,” Yakimiak said.

He added that achieving that outcome will require a coordinated effort across military, diplomatic, and economic lines.
