russia illegally holds 292 political prisoners from Crimea
The aggressor state is attempting to do everything possible to assimilate and destroy the indigenous peoples in the occupied territories.
Eskender Bariiev, Chairman of the Board at the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, and coordinator of the CPEN Working Group on Restoration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine, stated this during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“According to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, 292 political prisoners are being held in places of detention, 165 of whom are Crimean Tatars,” he said.
Bariiev noted that when Ukraine negotiates for the release of illegally detained individuals, russia refuses to include Azovstal defenders, Crimean Tatars, and journalists in exchange lists: “russia is trying to do everything to displace and assimilate representatives of the indigenous people. They are already stripping them of russian citizenship and attempting to deport them to their places of birth.”
