Rosatom’s grip on the Northern Sea Route is seen as shaping russia’s geopolitical future

The Northern Sea Route’s significance extends far beyond being a “second Suez Canal,” serving as a strategic and political battleground within russia, a Ukrainian analyst said.

Vadym Denysenko, head of the Business Capital Analytical Center, briefed the Media Center Ukraine that the Arctic corridor represents more than just a shipping lane.

“The Northern Sea Route has several dimensions. Logistics is one of them. The one on the surface. The second dimension involves the natural resources found along this route. The third dimension is political, internal to russia,” Denysenko said. “One of the Kremlin’s power groups has prevailed in the struggle for control. That means this faction could soon be in a position to play its own geopolitical games.”

Denysenko said that while nikolai patrushev is expected to oversee maritime logistics, the decisive authority lies with sergei kiriyenko, who controls Rosatom.
