Producers increase winter wheat acreage due to weather challenges, says Denys Marchuk
Amid ongoing challenges in the agricultural sector, many producers have expanded their winter wheat plantings, recognizing its resilience to adverse weather conditions.
Denys Marchuk, Deputy Head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, shared this insight during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“At the conclusion of the winter crops sowing campaign, we observed that a significant number of producers increased their winter wheat plantings. This is because winter wheat is better suited to withstand weather conditions like those experienced in July this year. Wheat losses will be lower compared to crops like corn. For instance, corn harvest losses amounted to around 10 million tons compared to last year, which is a significant drop. As a result, many producers have shifted their focus to this niche,” Marchuk explained.
