Preparedness of Kyiv’s critical infrastructure for long-term power outages: Kyiv City State Administration reported on measures taken
In preparation for possible prolonged power outages in the capital, a number of measures have been taken to ensure backup power supplies for the city’s critical infrastructure.
This was stated by Petro Panteleiev, deputy head of Kyiv City State Administration, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“This year we have doubled the number of mobile boiler rooms. These units are used to provide heat to hospitals, maternity wards and other facilities that need heat. During power outages, these stations have proven very effective: the Oleksandrivska Hospital operated on them for three days, as did the Burn Center,” he noted.
According to Petro Panteleiev, a number of other measures have been taken to ensure that Kyiv residents are provided with adequate resources during the blackouts.
“We have checked the autonomous system of water supply from artesian wells. Each well is equipped with generators, and teams are ready to arrive and activate them if needed. More than 100 boiler stations that can run on generators have been equipped with them so that they can function during power outages. Similar work has been done for large heat sources and artesian wells. Where we can replace stationary power with backup sources, we do so,” he added.
