Preparation for heating season and possible blackouts: Zaporizhia region plans to introduce additional 30 MW into electrical grid

30 MW of decentralized electricity is to be introduced into Zaporizhia region’s electrical grid to avoid issues during the heating season and ensure operation of infrastructure during possible blackouts.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhia Oblast Military Administration, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.

“Our main goal is to make sure that we can function without electricity. We need an additional 30 MW. Today, we already understand how we will introduce this (into the power grid) – at the expense of donors. Firstly, a tender has now been announced for the purchase of cogeneration plants, which will be paid for by UNICEF. These are three plants with a capacity of 2.5 MW each. We also expect that the procurement of 8 cogeneration plants with a capacity of 2.5 MW each announced by UNDP, will be successful. We also expect to receive aid from the governments of Norway and Denmark – cogeneration plants, which are to be delivered in the coming months. Thus, we plan to introduce approximately 30 MW of decentralized electricity (into the power grid – Ed.) in the next heating season,” explained Ivan Fedorov.

He also noted that the issues of the installation of solar panels on the territory of the region’s hospitals and educational institutions are currently being worked out.

According to Ivan Fedorov, inverter batteries are being installed at traffic lights in the region to ensure road safety during prolonged blackouts.

“Thus, all kinds of measures are being taken to prepare for the heating season in the autumn-winter period. I hope we will manage to complete all our plans,” he concluded.
