PostEurop suspends membership of russia and belarus indefinitely
Yuliia Pavlenko, Director of the International Operations Department at Ukrposhta made this statement at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“Ukrainian diplomats made a lot of efforts to exclude russia from the list of acceptable partners in the world. The postal community was no exception. We turned to the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a structural division of the United Nations that ensures delivery from anywhere in the world. There are certain elected positions held by different countries. The customs committee was headed by russia. We succeeded in removing the russian candidate from this position. An aggressor country has no right to sit at the same table with civilized countries,” — she said.
The UPU has six divisions, including the European PostEurop. For the first time in a hundred years, the postal services of russia and belarus are suspended from this organization temporarily, but as long as there is aggression against Ukraine, the position of the partners will remain unchanged. In addition, some countries have already excluded russia from their delivery lists.
