Over 9,500 fires linked to power grid failures in 2024, reports Ukraine’s State Emergency Service
Since the start of 2024, Ukraine has recorded more than 9,500 fires caused by emergency malfunctions in power grids and electrical appliances, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES).
Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, the SES spokesperson, shared the alarming statistics during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Since the beginning of 2024, over 9,500 fires have been triggered by emergency modes of operation in power grids and electrical installations. Focusing on electrical appliances or devices used during power outages, I would break down the statistics as follows: 311 fires were caused by devices that store electricity, 90 occurred due to generators, and over 103 incidents involved the use of gas burners or fuel canisters,” Khorunzhyi stated. “The above-mentioned fires have had devastating consequences. A total of 12 people, including one child, lost their lives, and 83 individuals, five of them children, sustained injuries,” he added.
