Over 1.5 million Ukrainian children in temporarily occupied territories live in fear

Around 6 million Ukrainians, including 1.5 million children, remain in the occupied territories. Experts emphasize that Ukraine must monitor the situation of Ukrainians under occupation at the state level to accurately assess the needs and circumstances of those who manage to leave.

Valentina Potapova, head of Direction of National Advocacy at the Centre of Civil Education Almenda, stressed this point during a discussion at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Children in occupied territories live in constant fear. They perceive their own identity as a threat to their lives and a source of shame. Therefore, the state must consider these challenges when such children arrive in government-controlled territories,” Potapova said.
