Open border with Poland: Ukraine updates first checkpoint
An updated Korczowa-Krakovets checkpoint, which was modernized as part of the Open Border project, has started operating on the Ukrainian-Polish border. After the modernization, its capacity will increase by one and a half times.
This statement was made by Andrii Demchenko, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.
“As the result of the conducted work, the number of lanes for trucks was increased from four to ten, additional pavilions were created for customs and passport control. Accordingly, the number of border guards and customs officers has increased, and Poland has provided special container modules for them,” — he said.
According to the Open Border project, the bottlenecks on the western border are to be eliminated, and the logistics on the Ukraine-EU route is to be improved. To this end, it is planned to reconstruct the infrastructure of existing checkpoints, build new checkpoints, and introduce joint border and customs control with neighboring countries.
