Only tougher sanctions, long-range weapons can halt russia, Ukrainian MP Says
The balance on the battlefield in Ukraine can only shift if Western allies step up arms deliveries and tighten sanctions against russia, Fedir Venislavskyi, MP, Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence said during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“russia has no intention of stopping the bloodshed. Ukraine demonstrates its readiness for an immediate ceasefire and a transition to a diplomatic settlement,” said Venislavskyi, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence. “Only a joint increase in sanctions pressure and the transfer of weapons to Ukraine, including long-range weapons, will be able to change russia’s rhetoric and the situation on the battlefield.”
He pointed to russia’s struggling air travel sector as a clear warning to the Kremlin of what further pressure could bring if Ukraine receives the military support it needs.
“Only when ordinary citizens in russia feel what war is like will they be able to put pressure on the regime,” he added.
