One-third of Kherson region’s forests are threatened by occupants’ blowing up of the Kakhovka dam
The Kakhovka HPP collapse caused significant damage to the Kherson region forests. Thus, a third of the region’s forests are now under threat.
Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, Spokesman for the Kherson Oblast Military Administration, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“The forests of the Kherson region felt the devastating impact. About a third of all forests in the Kherson region are under threat. The entire ecosystem has been destroyed. We’ll be watching how nature will recover in the spring and draw conclusions. Prior to that, I think there will be environmentalists’ conclusions on the extent of the damage and how much money is needed to restore the ecosystem and everything we have lost,” Tolokonnikov said.
