One in three Ukrainians unable to cover basic needs if income is lost – OPORA survey
Roughly one-third of Ukrainians say they would struggle to cover basic living expenses if they lost their income, according to the Civil Network OPORA.
The results, drawn from a recent survey of Ukrainians living both in the country and abroad, were shared by OPORA analyst Anastasiia Romaniuk during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“To examine social cohesion, it was essential to also look at economic stability,” Romaniuk said. “One in three Ukrainians, whether still in the country or living abroad, wouldn’t be able to meet their basic needs if they lost their jobs. That was a critical insight for us. When people face ongoing financial hardship, they’re less likely to plan for the long term or invest in their communities and the country’s future.”
The conceptual framework of the study was developed by OPORA’s research team, while the polling was carried out by the Rating Sociological Group. The survey polled 2,400 respondents with 2,200 Ukrainians living in government-controlled areas of the country and 400 currently residing abroad.
