One in three Ukrainians report facing corruption, survey finds

A new survey suggests that while most Ukrainians view corruption as a major problem, fewer say they experienced it directly over the past year compared with last year. Younger respondents also appear less likely than older generations to rank it as a top concern.

The findings come from a study conducted by Transparency International Ukraine and presented at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Although Ukrainians recognize corruption as a serious issue, only 30% of citizens said they or their family members had personally encountered it over the past year. Of those, 23% admitted going along with a corrupt arrangement, while 68% refused,” said Anastasiia Mazurok, deputy executive director at Transparency International Ukraine.

The survey found that 87% of Ukrainians believe corruption is widespread across the country. That view is consistent across all age groups, but older respondents were the most critical: 90% of those over 65 said it was prevalent. By contrast, younger Ukrainians under 24 were more restrained in their assessments, with 81% saying corruption is common.
