Odesa International Film Festival director clarifies decision to move this year’s event from Odesa to Kyiv

Anna Machukh, Managing Director of the festival, cited security concerns and logistical advantages for international guests as the primary reasons for the decision to host the 15th Odesa International Film Festival in Kyiv, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

Machukh explained, “No city in Ukraine is entirely safe, but Kyiv offers greater security than any other major city in the country. That’s why we opted for Kyiv, considering both security and logistical factors. Since we lack airports here, international guests need to travel to attend the film festival. While the event primarily caters to Ukrainian audiences, it’s equally crucial for international guests to participate, watch Ukrainian films, and engage with Ukrainian filmmakers, which significantly contributes to cultural diplomacy. Therefore, logistically, Kyiv proves much more convenient than other cities.”

Additionally, it should be noted that the Odesa International Film Festival is scheduled from July 12 to 20, 2024.
