No mandatory mobilization for 60+ age group – Fedir Venislavskyi

The Verkhovna Rada has permitted Ukrainian citizens over the age of 60 to serve in the military, but only as specialized professionals needed in the security and defense sectors. However, there will be no mandatory mobilization for this age category, clarified Fedir Venislavskyi, MP and member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“There can be no mandatory mobilization for those aged 60 and over. At 60, individuals are automatically removed from military registration. They can only continue serving voluntarily, and only on a contractual basis,” the MP emphasized.

Venislavskyi noted that the defense sector already has a sufficient number of specialists over the age of 60 performing specific tasks.

“I can confirm that some of the recent events described as ‘firsts in Ukrainian military history’ were carried out with the participation of specialists aged 60 and over. This primarily concerns Soviet-era equipment, which is still in use and best operated by experienced officers from that generation,” he added.
