New Zealand Defense Forces to provide maritime explosive ordnance disposal training for Ukrainian Armed Forces – Judith Collins
As part of a fresh support initiative, the New Zealand Defense Force will administer maritime explosive ordnance disposal training to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This announcement was made by Judith Collins, Minister of Defense of New Zealand, during the Second Black Sea Security Conference.
“In February this year, I announced the extension of the New Zealand Defense Forces’ mandate to provide training to Ukraine’s Armed Forces until June 2025. This is part of the $26 million package of assistance, which also includes humanitarian assistance, reconstruction assistance and a contribution to an international fund for Ukraine to procure arms and ammunition, as well as new sanctions covering the invasion by russia Sanctions Act. I am pleased that, as part of this new package of support, the New Zealand Defense Force personnel will deliver maritime explosive ordnance disposal training for members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” she said.
Judith Collins expressed her hope that these trainings will assist Ukraine in maintaining maritime security in the Black Sea and support its efforts to uphold international norms regarding the safe passage of commercial shipping.
