Nearly 49,000 people detained for border regime violations since martial law was imposed – State Border Guard Service

Since martial law was imposed in Ukraine, nearly 49,000 people have been detained for trying to cross the border illegally or for violating border legislation. Most of the detentions occurred in “green” border areas (uncontrolled sections), as well as at checkpoints and official crossing points.

Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, shared this information during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.

“44,900 people were detained within Ukraine’s territory. Specifically, 26,000 were apprehended in ‘green’ border areas during illegal crossing attempts, while nearly 19,000 were stopped at checkpoints or border control posts for violating border laws,” Demchenko said.

Additionally, about 4,000 individuals were detained at official crossing points or along legal routes while attempting to cross illegally using forged documents or fraudulent exit permits.

“In total, we’re talking about 49,000 people who were detained or identified in border zones, at crossing points, or within Ukraine for breaching border legislation or attempting illegal crossings,” Demchenko emphasized.
