NATO is doing everything to ensure that Ukraine wins and becomes a member of the Alliance, says NATO Assistant Secretary General

NATO is doing everything it can to help Ukraine win the war against russia and become a full member of the North Atlantic Alliance.

This was stated by Marie-Doha Besancenot, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, during the 10th Kyiv Security Forum for Youth organized by Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

She noted that the new NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, made his first visit to Ukraine and later convened a Summit of NATO Defense Ministers, which was attended by the President of Ukraine.

According to her, the Secretary General emphasized three priorities. The first is to continue to invest in the defense of Alliance members. The second is to support Ukraine in its fight against russian aggression, to support its ability to produce its own weapons. The third is to address the growing global challenges to Euro-Atlantic security.

“Ukraine will become a member of NATO, there is no doubt about it, and all members of the Alliance have made these decisions at previous summits,” she stressed.

Marie-Doha Besancenot also said that a NATO command has been established to coordinate support and training for Ukraine, and that at the EU level, at least 40 billion euros in military assistance has been agreed for Ukraine next year.

The NATO Assistant Secretary General emphasized the need to study Ukraine’s combat experience, as the Ukrainian Armed Forces are performing “real miracles on the battlefield”.

She highlighted new technologies that are truly changing the face of warfare, including Sea Baby naval drones and other innovations.

“These technologies have completely incapacitated the russian Black Sea Fleet, and we see that Ukraine is independently developing other technologies, such as jam resistant handheld radios. So, all these innovations are really transforming future warfare,” she noted.

Addressing the Forum participants, the NATO Assistant Secretary General expressed hope that the young generation of Ukrainians – the generation of war – will become a generation of winners.

The Kyiv Security Forum for Youth is a leading platform for engaging young leaders in discussions on national security and international relations.
