NABU Chief: Ukrainian lawmakers refuse to acknowledge corruption charges
Members of Parliament in Ukraine have shown little willingness to treat corruption allegations with the seriousness they warrant, despite having previously supported legislation aimed at increasing transparency and strengthening anti-corruption institutions.
Speaking at Media Center Ukraine, National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine Director Semen Kryvonos criticized lawmakers for dismissing the legitimacy of investigations launched against them.
“When it comes to proceedings initiated against MPs, the charges include both misuse of state property and the unlawful receipt of public assistance benefits. Lawmakers refuse to accept the investigation of offenses related to illicit gains and failure to declare assets. This leads to outright denial on their part and accusations that the charges are fabricated,” Kryvonos said.
