NABU and SAPO unveil 2023 crackdown on top corrupt officials
In 2023, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office successfully exposed and prosecuted numerous high-profile officials.
Semen Kryvonos, NABU Director disclosed that in a press conference at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“Throughout 2023, we apprehended the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court along with Court of Appeal judges, held 11 MPs and three deputy ministers accountable criminally. By the numbers, we nabbed 21 senior state officials—11 in the first half of the year and 10 in the latter half, as well as 39 heads of state-owned enterprises—26 initially and 13 subsequently. Furthermore, 16 judges were implicated—5 initially and 11 subsequently,” stated Semen Kryvonos.
Meanwhile, Oleksandr Klymenko, Head of SAPO, underscored the agency’s achievements in combating corruption within the judiciary.
“We’ve filed notices of suspicion and proceeded to court with cases involving judges across all levels, including first-instance, appellate, and Supreme Court judges, along with the Head of the State Judicial Administration—a position of no less significance and responsibility in our nation. Our progress in this realm has been quite promising,” remarked Oleksandr Klymenko.
