NABU and SAPO file four civil lawsuits to confiscate unjustified assets in first half of 2024 – Oleksandr Klymenko
Within the past six months, in addition to a series of activities exposing corruption and bringing perpetrators to justice, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) filed four civil lawsuits to recover unjustified assets.
Oleksandr Klymenko, Head of the SAPO, made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
“In addition to filing indictments to the court, we also filed four civil lawsuits to confiscate unjustified assets. We also already received some results regarding three cases that had been filed earlier. And the relevant work is always ongoing, we are constantly developing new and new materials for civil lawsuits,” he said.
Civil lawsuits are quite an effective tool for confiscating unjustified assets.
“For example, the court can spend four or five or six years, maybe even longer, on a case involving losses caused by embezzlement or misappropriation of funds in the amount of five, six, seven million hryvnias. The case dealing with confiscation of unjustified assets in similar amounts can be considered by the court within two to three months, and we will achieve results. The unjustified assets will be recovered, adding to the state revenue,” he explained.
He also emphasized that the first half of 2024 has been the most successful period in the entire history of NABU and SAPO, with results comparable to the indicators of the entire previous year.
As previously reported, the economic impact of NABU and SAPO activities amounted to UAH 3.7 billion within the first six months of 2024.
