More than 500,000 children in the occupied territories are studying under the Russian curriculum, according to research 

In 2025-2026, there will be 1,980 schools operating in the temporarily occupied territories that have been converted to Russian educational standards. These schools will have 572,000 students.

This was stated by Tetiana Lychko, a documentarian at the Almenda Center for Human Rights, during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center.

“All these Ukrainian children are deprived of their right to choose. They cannot choose the language of instruction or the curriculum they will study. At the same time, they live in constant fear of not attending Russian school, as well as fear of punishment under anti-extremism legislation,” she said. 

The expert added that Russia continues to Russify and militarize Ukrainian children.
