Ministry for Development launches program to train Ukrainian women leaders amid transport sector shortage
Ukraine has launched a new initiative to support women in leadership roles within the transport sector. The program was announced at the Media Center Ukraine by Serhiy Derkach, deputy minister of communities and territories development.
“The program is called ‘Manage Change’ because it is important for us that women occupy management positions in the transport sector. It is organized with the support of the International Transport Forum. Today, there is a major personnel crisis across all sectors of the economy, and the transport sector is no exception. The program is designed to train women to become managers and leaders in transport. The course provides women with a wealth of information necessary for managers and entrepreneurs,” Derkach said.
Designed in collaboration with the International Transport Forum at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the initiative addresses a pressing personnel gap across the country’s economy, with the transport industry particularly affected.
Derkach added that graduates can expect career advancement opportunities both within their current organizations and in the private sector. The ZAMMLER group of logistics companies has already pledged support, offering consulting services, employment, and hands-on opportunities to apply the skills gained.
Kateryna Datsko, an OECD expert on curriculum development and executive director of the Foundation for Institutional Development, highlighted the program’s focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and transport sector development. “We want to give participants as much opportunity as possible to interact with people who have achieved significant success in this field. In addition to 40 training hours, we offer a mentoring program. The mentors will be professionals who have reached high levels of achievement in the sector,” she said.
The program spans 40 hours across three sessions: two online and one in person, and participants will have access to mentoring from industry leaders. It is aimed at women with existing experience in transport-related roles rather than beginners.
Twenty-five women who demonstrate relevant experience and a strong drive for professional growth will be shortlisted. Participants are expected to attend all sessions to benefit from the program fully.
