MIHR reports: At least 115 seriously ill and severely wounded Ukrainians held in russia

Recent findings from open sources and testimonies of released defenders indicate that at least 115 seriously ill and severely wounded Ukrainians are currently imprisoned in russia.

This information was shared by Olena Belyachkova, a coordinator of the groups of families of POWs and missing persons at the MIHR, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“Based on the communications that we managed to have with released prisoners of war and civilians, as well as information from public sources, we estimate that approximately 115 individuals are suffering from serious illnesses or severe injuries. However, we acknowledge that this number may not be definitive, given the condition in which our compatriots return from captivity,” Belyachkova explained.

To expedite the return of these severely ill and injured Ukrainians, a mixed medical commission was established in Ukraine in the summer of 2023, in accordance with the Geneva Convention. However, Belyachkova noted that russia has yet to form a corresponding commission.
