Mathematics in NMT has minimal impact on admission scores for creative majors – Tetiana Vakulenko
Mathematics in the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) is not a decisive subject for applicants to creative majors. Its role in calculating the competitive score is minimal – the primary requirement is surpassing the threshold.
Tetiana Vakulenko, Director of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment, emphasized this during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine.
She explained that the higher education admissions system applies coefficients that account for the specifics of each chosen field of study.
“According to the current procedure, the higher education admissions mechanism applies specialty-specific priority coefficients. The value of these coefficients depends on the specialty to which the applicant is applying. For creative majors, the coefficient applied to mathematics is minimal. The only requirement is to meet the threshold score. This year’s threshold for mathematics is 5 test points out of 32. The tasks needed to achieve this score are based on the 5th–7th grade curriculum,” Vakulenko clarified.
