Massive drone strike on southern Ukraine – Natalia Humeniuk reports on the aftermath of the night attack
Last night, the enemy pounded Ukraine’s southern regions with a large drone attack, with the main efforts of the enemy concentrated on attacks on Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Vinnytsia regions. There are reports of people being injured as a result of the strike, and a number of facilities, including an educational institution in the Odesa region, residential buildings in the Mykolaiv region, and an infrastructure facility in the Vinnytsia region came under attack.
Natalia Humeniuk, Head of the United Coordinating Press Center of Security and Defense Forces of the South of Ukraine, made this report during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.
“An enemy overnight attack hit the Odesa region, firing at targets from the Black Sea. The Shahed drone attack against Ukraine was launched, especially targeting the coastal strip. It is clear that the enemy is particularly concerned about bombarding port infrastructure, including doubling down on tactical aviation to go on dropping guided bombs in the Black Sea, which was recorded yesterday. Despite downing five drones in the Odesa region, some direct hits couldn’t be averted. A Russian airstrike hit an educational institution, damaging the building, blowing out some glazing, and shattering an unoccupied unfinished building nearby,” said Natalia Humeniuk.
According to her, two patrol police officers were injured while trying to assist civilians after the first hit, but they sustained blast injuries and were hospitalized as a result of the second strike. Their condition is currently stable.
Natalia Humeniuk noted that the Russian air campaign terrorized citizens in the Mykolaiv region with Shaheds attacks coming that night. The sports and industrial infrastructure, and residential buildings were damaged. There was no information about the victims.
In the Vinnytsia region, Ukraine’s air defense systems destroyed Russia-launched Shahed drones, and the remnants of two downed drones started a fire at an infrastructure facility, which was extinguished by firefighters.
At the same time, added Natalia Humeniuk, the enemy tried to activate tactical aviation on the front line, dropping guided bombs. Zmiivka was bombed both day and night. They also continued shelling the regional center itself, causing three people to be injured.
“Once again, such regular terror continues with the use of drones built with various charges for different targets and of other configurations: FPV, and those with fragmentation munitions. At the same time, the enemy focuses on blasting civilian targets, on places where special services performing on-site works after eliminating the consequences of hits, which again emphasizes the terrorist nature of these attacks,” noted Natalia Humeniuk.
