Long-range weapons the U.S. is considering could push russia toward fair peace talks, Ukrainian lawmaker says

A member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence said at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine that the long-range systems the United States is considering granting could pressure russia to negotiate an end to the war on just terms.

“I would recommend waiting for those American-made long-range [ed.] systems which have a range of one to two thousand kilometers,” stated Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of Ukraine’s parliament. “The preliminary agreements were reached during meetings between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States. Trump realized that Putin is not a reliable negotiator. The only thing that can make him change his approach to the course of this war is the precise and long-range targeting of legitimate military objectives.”

Venislavskyi added that once Ukraine receives such weapons, the shift in the balance of power will compel russia’s leadership to come to the table and negotiate a just end to the war.
