Left Bank, Southern Ukraine and Kyiv: Expert points out which regions will face the most severe power challenges this winter
Due to various factors, the most challenging situation with electricity this winter could occur on the Left Bank, in the south of Ukraine and in Kyiv.
This was emphasized by Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Industry Research Center, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“The Left Bank and the South – objectively, there are problems with transmitting electricity to the Left Bank, and there are certain limitations due to the ongoing attacks on the infrastructure. The south in general has a significant lack of generating capacity, and electricity has to be transmitted there, which further weakens the system. And the weakest point is Kyiv. Kyiv is naturally a huge consumer with a very negative energy balance, constantly requiring almost a gigawatt of power from outside sources. Unfortunately, Kyiv is highly vulnerable and its residents need to prepare for a rather difficult winter under any scenario,” explained Oleksandr Kharchenko.
