“Leaders in Media”: Ukrainian media women develop a roadmap to strengthen female leadership in the industry
For the first time in Ukraine, the “Leaders in Media” program was launched to analyze and overcome personal, editorial, and systemic barriers to female leadership development. Participants in the program have developed and presented a joint policy paper. The document combines an analysis of the challenges women face in Ukrainian media with comprehensive recommendations for strengthening female leadership at the levels of personal practices, editorial policies, industry standards, and state support.
Mariya Frey, member of the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (Suspilne) Supervisory Board, discussed this at the Media Center Ukraine.
“The first thing I want to highlight when we talk about women and leadership is that we cannot consider women in the same way, as we do for men. A woman always carries an enormous burden of care work, which is never measured. Therefore, a key advantage of this program was that we had the opportunity to learn wherever possible,” she said.
The joint policy paper collects the experiences of Ukrainian women in the media and is intended to inform the development of future applicable policies that address specific problems.
