Kyiv urges global response to russian strike, warns against silence like in 2014
A nighttime attack on Kyiv underscores moscow’s rejection of Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts toward a ceasefire and lasting peace.
Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Office of the President of Ukraine, issued the appeal during the Fourth International Forum of the Crimea Platform Expert Network.
“The strike on Kyiv is the aggressor’s answer to every attempt by Ukraine to build genuine peace,” Zhovkva said. “That is why today the world must respond, every leader standing on the side of good, every international organization, and every country seeking to mediate. We cannot allow the world’s silence in 2014, when the overwhelming majority stood by, to be repeated.”
Zhovkva argued that when russia seized Crimea more than a decade ago, the international community largely convinced Kyiv not to provoke moscow. That reluctance, he said, emboldened russia and ultimately paved the way for its full-scale invasion.
“Crimea has always been and will remain part of Ukraine,” he added. “Ukraine will never accept any attempt to legitimize the occupation. We are forced to repeat this to the world every day. Crimea is not just land – it is people.”
