Nine people, including an 11-year-old child, were killed in a Russian airstrike targeting Kyiv and the surrounding region in the early hours of June 23, Ukrainian officials said.

“The main target of the enemy was the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region,” said Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, spokesperson for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, speaking at a briefing at Media Center Ukraine. “As of today, there are nine confirmed fatalities, five men and four women. Among them is a minor, just 11 years old.”

The State Emergency Service reported that 38 people were injured in the strike.

“They sustained various injuries of differing severity, mostly bruises, fractures, abrasions, lacerations, and acute stress reactions,” Khorunzhyi said.

The assault hit three districts of the capital: Solomianskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi. Emergency crews were deployed to 15 separate sites, including residential buildings, business centers, and critical infrastructure.

More than 400 first responders and over 100 units of specialized equipment were involved in the rescue and recovery efforts, according to authorities.
