Kyiv alone needs around €7 billion to restore capacity and replace destroyed thermal power plants, according to the Energy Research Center

It is impossible to fully replace the amount of electricity and heat generated by thermal power plants in large cities during the inter-heating season. This was stated by Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center. 

“This can only be done within 3-5 years and with large investments. The amount of such investments may reach, according to a conservative estimate, €7 billion and a huge amount of work for Kyiv alone,” the expert said.

According to Oleksandr Kharchenko, experts and lawmakers are currently discussing what needs to be done and what can realistically be achieved by next year.
