Kryvonos: NABU probe into drone procurement unaffected by external influence

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) continues to prioritize tackling corruption in the defense, reconstruction, and energy sectors, with ongoing investigations revealing billions of hryvnias in losses. The latest high-profile probe centers on corruption in the procurement of drones and electronic warfare systems.

Speaking at the Media Center Ukraine, NABU Director Semen Kryvonos confirmed that multiple officials have already been implicated in the case.

“A member of parliament, a military serviceman, and the heads of several military administrations were found to be involved in corrupt practices tied to drone and EW equipment procurement. The roles of additional individuals are currently under review. Following the exposure of this organized group, we held a meeting with the President. All suspects had already been detained and placed under our control before any communication with the head of state took place,” Kryvonos stated.

He underscored that no advance notice was given to officials or government bodies prior to the arrests, and that no information about the case was disclosed beforehand.

“Because some of the detainees are military personnel, we’re also examining the potential involvement of other service members. This required conducting searches at military facilities and the suspects’ residences. Given previous complications during similar investigative procedures, we decided to notify the President, as Supreme Commander-in-Chief, ahead of these searches,” Kryvonos explained.

He stressed that the investigation remained fully independent and was not subject to any outside interference.
