Kateryna Rashevska: The return of abducted Ukrainian children is a key element of a just peace
The return of children abducted by russia is an integral part of achieving just peace in the future.
This was emphasized by Kateryna Rashevska, PhD in International Law, expert at the Regional Center for Human Rights, during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.
“Every time technical consultations take place, the Ukrainian side raises the issue of the return of our children. This is part of our vision of peace – not only Ukraine’s vision, but also the vision of individual states of the Global South, such as the African countries that traveled with the African Peace Initiative to both us and russia, as well as Brazil. In other words, without the return of these abducted children to their homes, it is difficult to even imagine a stable, long-term and just peace,” she noted.
According to Kateryna Rashevska, the absence of a just solution to this issue could lead to heightened public sentiment and create conditions for political instability.
“Therefore, it is clear that if this does not happen, a certain part of the population will feel threatened and wronged. And this is fertile ground for various negative political processes and revanchism,” she explained.
It is worth recalling that recently the US National Security Advisor Michael Walz stated that Washington considers the return of Ukrainian children deported by the russian federation as one of the means of strengthening trust.
