January 2025 sets record as warmest month in Ukraine and worldwide – Ukrhydrometcenter

January 2025 saw unprecedented warmth both globally and across most regions of Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

Natalia Ptukha, spokesperson for the agency, shared the findings during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine.

“The European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service has determined that January 2025 was the warmest on record worldwide,” Ptukha stated.

Ukraine followed the global trend, with most regions experiencing their unseasonably warm January temperatures in recorded history.

“In western Ukraine, as well as in Vinnytsia and Odesa, this January ranked among the warmest. Meanwhile, in the rest of the country, it was the warmest on record,” she noted.

According to Ptukha, the average monthly temperatures in Ukraine exceeded the climatic norm for January by 3.3°C to 3.7°C. 

“The highest temperatures observed ranged from +8 to +18 degrees Celsius—far from typical January values. In most regions, absolute maximum temperature records for the entire history of observations were surpassed,” she added.
