Inclusion of russia in the UN List of Shame: How the global community supports the initiative
Active efforts are underway to engage the international community in supporting the initiative to put russia on the UN List of Shame for systematically committing conflict-related sexual violence against Ukrainian citizens. Several international organizations have already expressed their commitment to support this initiative.
This was reported by Iryna Dovhan, head of the NGO SEMA Ukraine, during a discussion at the Media Center Ukraine.
“We have already started extensive international efforts. We have strong ties with French organizations, including women’s groups and others, who have received our ‘letter of shame’ and confirmed that they will sign it. We also have strong support from countries within the SEMA network. I have already spoken with organizations in Colombia and women’s groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo who have also assured us that they will sign the ‘letter of shame’. Over the years of our cooperation, they have come to understand Ukraine’s struggle well, they sympathize with us, and they stand with us,” she said.
Iryna Dovhan noted that Ukrainian diasporas around the world are also joining the initiative and are ready to sign the letter.
“I believe that our efforts will be very effective and I am confident that we will achieve results,” she added.
As a reminder: Ukrainian activists have already submitted an appeal to the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine to include russia in the UN List of Shame.
